Grindr, the iPhone app nicknamed "gay GPS" just passed 500,000 users less than a year after it launched. Now more guys than ever are using their iPhone or iPod Touch to log on and find out that, say "Chris" is 28 years old, 5 feet and 8 inches tall, 130 lbs, very cute and just 1315 feet away! Even Stephen Fry loves it.
If you travel at all, it can become addictive to check out how many people are active within a few miles of the exit off the highway where you've stopped to eat or compare users in major urban centers like New York City (loads of guys) to rural areas (where older men who can afford iPhones are presumably more prevalent and more in need of online social networking). You can collect them as favorites and check on their status even when you're back home. We're addicted to a handsome devil somewhere in South Carolina who nicknames himself "URL" and says he's a "permasingle, workaholic, shopoholic, introvert, independent, elusive, aloof, audiophile, monster." Surely someday soon he'll be taken, but for the moment it's nice to know he's online and only...577.7 miles away.
